Baia Mare Open Print

The Municipiului Baia Mare organized an open tournament from 5th to 11th September in Baia Mare, Romania. 62 players took participation and among them seven Grandmasters. Top seeded was GM Gergely Szabo.

GM Marius Manolache convincingly won the race by collecting 7.5 points from nine rounds and leaving the nearest followers a full point behind.

Baia Mare is a municipality in northwestern Romania and the capital of Maramureş County. The city is situated about 600 kilometers from Bucharest, the capital of Romania, 70 kilometers from the border with Hungary and 50 kilometers from the border with Ukraine. According to the 2002 census, the city population is 137,921.

Tournament director was Daniel Pop, Chief-Arbiter IA Chirila Radu Catalin.
