The Municipiului Baia Mare is organizing an open tournament from 5th to 11th September in Baia Mare, Romania. Currently 59 players are signed to participate with 8 Grandmasters in the field. Top seeded is GM Gergely Szabo.
Baia Mare is a municipality in northwestern Romania and the capital of Maramureş County. The city is situated about 600 kilometres from Bucharest, the capital of Romania, 70 kilometres from the border with Hungary and 50 kilometres from the border with Ukraine. According to the 2002 census, the city population is 137,921.
