The 30th International Open Villa de Benasque was held from 8th to 17th July in Benasque, on Pirineos in Spain. One of the world's most prestigious opens attracted 505 players in the main section only. In addition, Cerrado de Campeones, Veterans tournament, Rapid tournament and match Spain vs Rest of the World were also played.

Bulgarian Grandmaster Kiril Georgiev, the top seeded player of the tournament, and Azerbaijan champion Eltaj Safarli shared the first place with 8.5 points each. Nine players shared the third place remaining half a point behind the winners.
