Chinese GM Ni Hua and Iranian WGM Atousa Pourkashiyan won the 9th Asian Individual Championships held 20-30 April 2010 in Subic Freeport, Philippines. Ni Hua and Pourkashiyan both scored a total of 7 points out of 9 rounds to finish alone in first in their respective Open and Women's divisions. In photo, Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority Administrator Armand C. Arreza (center) and National Chess Federation of the Philippines Chairman/President Prospero A. Pichay, Jr. award the runner-up trophy to local hero Wesley So.
The tournament was organized by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) under the auspices of FIDE and the Asian Chess Federation (ACF) and hosted by the Subic Bay Management Authority (SBMA). The top five Men qualify for the next World Cup while the Asian Women's champion qualifies for the 2012 Women's World Championship. The Asian Individual Championships are now held annually and next year's edition shall be hosted by the Iran Chess Federation.
