GM Wesley So Grabs Solo Lead After 5 Rds |

16-year-old Filipino GM Wesley So grabbed solo lead with 4.5 points after five rounds of the Asian Continental Championship in Subic, Philippines. Wesley beat Indonesian GM Susanto Megaranto whose dangerous Marshall Attack lost steam. A strong field of 32 Grandmasters and 20 IMs are among 90 players from 15 countries seeing action in the 9th Asian Continental Championship for Open and Women 20-30 April 2010 in Subic Freeport, Philippines. Watch top boards live at the Asian Chess Federation web site. In the women's division, 24 players from 9 countries with 7 WGMs, 2 IMs and 5 WIMs taking part.

A total of $65,000 is at stake in both tournaments, with $50,000 for the Open and $15,000 for the Women's. At the players' meeting it was proposed and agreed to make them both 9-round Swiss System events.
