2nd West Asian Women’s Chess League Blitz Championship

The Mazandaran chess team of Iran won the 2nd West Asian Women’s Chess League Blitz Championship with a clean sweep yesterday in the tournament organized by the Al Ain Chess Club under the auspices of the Asian Chess Federation in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Sports Council at the Hili Rayhaan Rotana hotel in Al Ain.

The Iranian women beat all five other clubs in the round robin tournament to finish with a perfect 10 match points. The Al Etisalat team of Iraq won second place with 7 match points. Host Al Ain team A placed third with 6 match points followed by Al Ain team B with 5 match points, Almasak of Saudi Arabia with 2 match points and scoreless Alnahdah team of Oman.

The champion Iranian team was composed of WFM Alinasab Mobina, WFM Asadi Motahare, Sadati Seyedeh Fatenmeh and Karimi Yeganeh.

The second place Iraq team was composed of Al-Fayyadh Zainab Asif Abdulla, WIM Al-Rufaye Iman Hasan Mohammed, WFM Jalaluldeen Kareen Kamal, WFM A-Ali Sali Abbas Abdulzahra and Ruwaida Saad Mohsin Al Naseri.

The third place Al Ain Team “A” was composed of WFM Al Dhaffari Salma, Shaikah Abdallah Aldhaheri, WCM Al Maamari Wafia Darwish, WFM Wadima Humaid S H Alkalbani and Al-Moaamari Mozah.

The West Asian Women’s Chess League consists of championships in Blitz, Rapid chess and Standard chess. The Rapid chess tournament will be a single round robin while the Standard chess championship will be played as a double round robin. At stake in the tournament are $1,900 for the blitz championship, $3,500 for the Rapid chess championship and $5,100 in the Standard chess championship.

The Al Etisalat Club team of Iraq won the Rapid chess championship of the 2nd West Asian Women’s Chess League yesterday at the Hili Rayhaan Rotana Hotel in Al Ain, UAE.

The Iraqi women made a clean sweep, beating five other teams in the single round robin for 10 match points. The Mazandaran team of Iran scored 8 match points for the silver medal while the Al Ain Club team A scored 6 match points for the bronze medal followed by Al Ain team B, the Almasmak team of Saudi Arabia and the Alnahdah team of Oman.

The Iraqi team, in board order, was composed of Al-Fayyadh Zainab Asif Abdula, WIM Al-Rufaye Iman Hasan Mohammed, WFM Jalaluldeen Kareen Kamal J. WFM A-Ali Sali Abbas Abdulzahra and Ruwaida Saad Mohsin Al Naseri.

The tournament is organized by the Al Ain Chess Club under the auspices of the Asian and UAE Chess Federations and the Abu Dhabi Sports Council.

The Iran team won the blitz chess championship earlier. Competition continues this week with the full time control Standard chess championship which will be played as a double round robin.
