Iranian, Chinese Win Asian Amateur

The Asian Amateur chess championships 2016 were held in Isfahan, Iran from 11th to 19th November. A total of 237 players in the men’s section and 43 players in the women’s section participated in the event from 7 countries, namely China, India, Iraq, Mongolia, Vietnam, Lebanon and host Iran. It was a 9 round Swiss system tournament in both men’s and women’s section.
Naderi M. Sadegh of Iran won the open section with 8 points followed a half point behind by Torkan Mohsen and Safari Eskandari Mojtaba, both of Iran, in second and third places, respectively. China’s Liu Hongyan won the women’s section with 7.5 points followed by WFM Asadi Motahare of Iran with 7 points and G. Sandhya of India with 6.5 points.
