Iran Wins Asian Under-14 Youth Team Championship

Iran finished alone with 17 match points to win the first Asian Nations Cup Under-14 Youth Team Championship held 6-11 November 2016 in Jiaxing, China. China-A grabbed the silver medal followed by Malaysia in third place for the bronze medal. Sixteen teams from eleven countries competed in the 9-round Swiss System tournament organized by the Chinese Chess Association. See chess-results.com for final standings.

The champion Iranian team was composed of Gholami Orimi Mahdi, FM Derakhshani Borna, Daghli Arash, Zahedifar Anahita and Poormosavi Seyed Kian.

Silver – Gholama Orimi Mahdi (IRI)
Bronze – Wong Yinn Long (MAS)

Board 2:
Gold – FM YU Kaifeng (CHN-A)

Silver – Peng Hongchi (CHN-A)
Bronze – Wu Wenda (CHN-D)

In the blitz tournament, Iran and China-A again placed first and second, respectively, but Sri Lanka was the surprise bronze medalist in third place.
