Eastern Asia Youth Chess Championship 2016
The Eastern Asia Youth Chess Championship 2016 is taking place from the 4th to 11th August 2016 at the Grand Ballroom of the Kangwon Land Convention Hotel in Jeongseon at the head of Han river, South Korea organized by the Korean Chess Federation under the auspices of the Asian Chess Federation and FIDE.
FIDE General Secretary Abraham Tolentino and Korean Chess Federation president Madame Hyun In Suk opened the developmental event. The ceremony started with the Korean National Anthem followed by the FIDE Anthem. There are 115 players from 14 countries, namely China, Hongkong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Macau, Malaysia, Mongolia, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Chinese-Taipei, and Vietnam.
The Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Eastern Asia Youth Chess Championship, Madame Hyun In Suk, welcomed all the participants and wished the championship will be held as world class competition.
Chief Arbiter is KK Chan of Hong Kong and Technical Delegate is Sainbayar Tserendorj of Mongolia New graduate Korean Arbiters complete the officiating team.
The World Youth Mind Sports Fair was at the same venue on the free day with Go, Bridge and Abacus as well. In blitz chess, FM Austin Jacob Literatus of the Philippines won the U20 blitz championship, Nguyen Dang Hong Phuc of Vietnam won in the U16, Tantipura Noppakorn of Thailand won the U14 category.and Amgalantengis Enkh-Amgalan of Mongolia won the U12 division while Munkhtur Tergel of Mongolia won the Girls 12 division.
