GM Ilincic Zlatko (SRB) winner of First Saturday June 2016 Budapest
An extremely strong IM tournament came together in Budapest in the lack of a GM event this month. The 10 players represented 9 federations that is really very rare in the history of Round-Robin tournaments. The only GM dominated the event with accurate play presenting his extraordinary endgame skills.
IGM ILINCIC, Zlatko (SRB)
Stigar Petter a professor of music, pianist and organ player from Bergen (NOR) played his nicest accords in chess too. He had real chance for IM norm but was sometimes lost in beauty of the endlessness of improvisations.
FM STIGAR, Petter (NOR)
The youngest participant Lee Qing Aun (15, SIN) who is the U14 Champion of Asia took the event as a training for the World Youth Chess Olympiad that takes place in Poprad (SVK) at the end of July. It was his first experience in Europe and also his first IM-Title tournament but as he said surely not the last expressing his wish to come back again fighting for IM or GM title norms.
FM LEE, Qing Aun (SIN)
Rydstrom Tom (18, SWE) has taken the event also as training for his greatest chess challenge of the year. He is qualified for the final of the Swedish Chess Championship. Tom will be faced with 9 grandmasters there. We hope he can score at least the same number of points there that would mean a GM norm definitely. He named IM Hall Jesper (SWE) as his main coach.
