Shakhriyar Mamedyarov wins 3rd Gashimov Memorial in Shamkir Print

The 3rd Vugar Gashimov Memorial – Shamkir Chess 2016 was held from 26th May to 4th June in Shamkir, Azerbaijan.

Ten world-class Grandmasters competed in the round robin event.

Shakhriyar Mamedyarov and Fabiano Caruana shared the first place with 6/9 points each. Mamedyarov had a furious finish with three victories in the final three rounds to catch the American.

A tie-break was needed to decide the single winner. The two rapid games were drawn and then Mamedyarov won the blitz 1,5-0,5 to lift the winner's trophy.
