The 4th Polish-Hungarian Friendship Tournament in Katowice is ended
We know the winners!
The tournament attracted almost 600 players from twelve different countries.
There were 21 grandmasters who took part in OPEN tournament in which played over 240 players.
The winner of the main tournament, OPEN is GM Kacper Piorun ( POL) who gathered 7,5 points out of 9. Second place goes to GM Bartosz Soćko ( POL ) also 7,5 points, third place for GM Tamas Banusz (HUN) 7,5 points.
In women classification first place is taken by GM Monika Socko ( POL) 7 points.
There were five junior groups. The winners are:

The tournament is one of the biggest in Poland. Thanks to City of Katowice, Polish Chess Federation and Silesian Chess Federation the Polish-Hungarian Friendship Tournament have been organized in the International Congress Centre in Katowice. The event was a fantastic opportunity for children to see grandmasters’ play and to take part in such a big tournament. Additionally, on-line coverage was available. Live comments were delivered by WCM Maria Leks, GM Bartłomiej Heberla and IM Daniel Sadzikowski were accessible at chess24.com which cooperated with the event whole time. Next year, Katowice is going to host European Blitz & Rapid Championship.
First day of Polish – Hungarian Friendship Tournament has just ended
We know the leaders after 5 rounds.
OPEN tournament has 3 leaders who are: GM Kirill Stupak, GM Sergei Azarov GM Zbigniew Pakleza. They all have 5 points out of 5. The highest place among women takes WGM Karina Szczepkowska – Horowska who gathered 4 points out of 5.
The tournament is the biggest event in Poland. Almost 600 players are taking part in this great tournament.

The fourth Polish – Hungarian Friendship tournament has just started in Katowice
From 7th to 8th May Katowice will host 580 players. Among them there are 21 Grand Masters such as GM Bartosz Soćko, GM Mateusz Bartel, GM Viktor Erdos. Women stars are GM Monika Soćko, WGM Karina Szczepkowska-Horowska.
First unexpected results were seen in the second round.
Radoslaw Dzierzak 2087 managed to draw with GM Mateusz Bartel and Polish junior star Szymon Gumularz also drew with GM Kamil Miton.
The opening ceremony took place just before the second round. The invited guests, Consul of Hungary Adrienne Kormendy, Vice President of Katowice Waldemar Bojarun and Board Member of European Chess Federation Martin Huba, Board Member of Polish Chess Federation Wlodzimierz Schmidt and Tournament Director Lukasz Turlej.
The games can be seen on-line. Moreover, there is a chess TV with Polish and English comments of GM Bartłomiej Heberla, IM Daniel Sadzikowski and WCM Maria Leks. Children can take part in many activities prepared by organizers. There are attractions dedicated to children such as Klanza sheet, big soap bubbles and other games directed by organizers of cultural activities.
The official match between Poland and Hungary is taking place in Katowice this week. The best players from Poland and Hungary came to Katowice, Poland to play against each other in the match organized by Polish Chess Federation, City of Katowice and Silesian Chess Federation.
The match will be played from 3rd to 6th May.
