Chebanenko Memorial 2016 Print

The 2016 edition of the Chebanenko Memorial was held from 11-12 March in Chisinau, Moldova.

The event was a 9-round Swiss rapid chess tournament dedicated to the memory of Moldovian player Vecheslav Chebanenko.

The tempo of play was 15′ + 10″, while the average tournament rating was 2380.

GM Sergei Zhigalko from Belarus emerged a solo winner with 7/9 points, leaving the nearest followers half a point behind.

The second place was shared in a four-way tie by GM Viorel Iordachescu from Moldova, GM Ilia Smirin from Israel, GM Olexandr Bortnyk from Ukraine and GM Vitaliy Bernadskiy, after the whole group finished the event with 6.5 points.
