ICSC World Champion won First Saturday Budapest March event
An extremely strong IM group came together to Budapest this month with 9 title holders. ICSC World Champion Klasan Vladimir (SRB) displayed his brilliant tactical skills. Winning the ICSC world Champion Title in Almaty (KAZ) 2012 granted him IM Title and we could see really high level chess from him. In the absence of GM tournament this month he undertook playing in the IM group and again, he presented modest and humble attitude to the game putting up hardest self-discipline when needed.
IM KLASAN, Vladimir (SRB) ICSC World Champion
It was the second time for Gaehwiler Gabriel (SUI) when he was only one game away from IM norm is Budapest. He needed a win in the last round but former U8 European Champion (now still only 12) Krstulovic Alex (HUN), who showed a great form in the second part of the event, stopped him with accurate defending play.
GAEHWILER Gabriel (SUI)
Havanecz Bianka (HUN) silver medalist of the HUN National Championship in 2015 had good chances for WGM norm but losing a sharp game against the World Champion set her back.
WIM HAVANECZ, Bianka (HUN)
Persson Mats (SWE) the only untitled player presented mature play. He could have deserved IM norm but had to content himself with a bronze medal because of the field so balanced.

The FM group was also an interesting, colorful international competition. The highest rated player Fodor Peter (HUN) showed extreme inventiveness in difficult endgames that helped him to victory. 13 years old Payeken Jakob Leon (GER) took all his games as a source of joy and so he was playing in combinative style. He was a bright spot of the event also with his open, friendly to all character.
PAJEKEN, Jakob Leon (GER)
The bronze medalist Barasiant Mariana (MDA) gave nice middle game chess lessons to most of his experienced male opponents.
BARASIANT, Mariana (MDA)
The only representative of Asia was an university pupil of Tehran, Afshar Niusha (IRI), who had been National Champion of Iran in several age groups. Supported by her parents only, she came to a month chess visit to Hungary. Her dream of becoming a WGM one day seems to be a real goal since she is gifted with original unique tactical style. She needs to improve first of all in endgame skills to be even more successful.
AFSHAR, Niusha (IRI)

The Development Group again was an amazing clash of generations. FIDE-ratings proved to be reliable in this group too since Shulcz Istvan (HUN) proved to be a chess professor in this group. His appearance may really remind anyone to an abstracted professor. 11 years old Fodor Kornel (HUN) developed the most with 50 FIDE points won. His trainer IM Janos Szabolcs (HUN) can be proud of him and can be a smith of further development. The youngest player Golubtsov Gordey (8, RUS) credited too much respect to his adult opponents and was satisfied with draws having a piece up. He can make a spectacular progress soon with a little more courage to play on to the end.
