Come & play chess in the most beautiful citadel of Transylvania!


Romanian International Open will take place from 16th of March to 23rd of March in Alba Iulia.

The symbol of the city is “Alba Carolina” – a Vauban citadel built in the 18th century which is nowadays recognized by the Romanian government as a cultural and historical monument of national interest. It is the largest citadel in Romania and one of the most original ones in Europe with respect to the decorations of the gates and the bastions. Alba Iulia Municipality was awarded the prestigious title of European Destination of Excellence conferred on the 1st of June 2012 by the European Commission through the Ministry of Regional Development and Tourism.
