The Latin American and World chess elite is called from Monday on in Bilbao to compete for the Ibero-American and the final of the Grand Slam Masters championship.
Bilbao Chess 2015, held from the 26th of October and the 3rd of November, gathers four of the top ten chess players in the world for the Masters Final, and 100 chess players from 17 countries for the Ibero-American Individual Championship.

The five time world champion Anand, two of his young challengers in the Final, Ding and So, and Paco Vallejo, one of the top favorites of the Ibero-American Championship, attended today to the official opening of the Bilbao Chess 2015.
Competitions can be watched for free, starting at 16:00 in the Campos Elíseos theater.
The four participants of the Masters Final have accepted the challenge to be faced on opposite sides of the board with a group of children in a duel set for the rest day, the 29th. Bilbao, 23rd of October 2015.
The simultaneous celebration of the VI Ibero-American Individual Championship and the VIII Final of the Grand Slam Masters will make Bilbao the world capital of chess for nine days starting on October 26th. This has been possible thanks to number of participants, as well as the high level in both competitions. Among them, four of the ten best players in the world today will be present, and will fight for the gold. On the other hand, mostly formed by the Latin American elite in this sport, close to a hundred, will compete for this prestigious intercontinental title.
Anish Giri, Dutch from Russian origin (21 years old and ranked sixth in the international ranking), Chinese Liren Ding (22 years and seventh in such ranking) and the American of Filipino origin Wesley So (21 years and in ninth position) are the new members of the World Chess elite. On the other side of the board, in an exciting intergenerational clash, we have the five time world champion and actual champion of the tournament, Viswanathan Anand from India, who is 45 years. The four make 2 up the attractive competitive lineup of the eighth edition of the Final of Masters of the Grand Slam Chess of Bilbao.
The VII Final of the Grand Slam Masters of this year is the worlds highest skill tournament taking place in the sporting level. It is measured based on the ELO system scores in the world rankings, whose average, established by the four participants, reaches the stratospheric number of 2.785,75 points, exceeded only once in the history.
Regarding the Ibero-American Individual Championships, it involves a total of 92 players, coming from 17 countries associated to the Ibero-American Federation of chess: Andorra, Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, El Salvador, Spain, Honduras, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico, Uruguay and Venezuela.
Among the registered we have Paco Vallejo, being the best Spanish chess player of the last decade, who, is expected to take over the title of Ibero-American Champion this year according to the specialists’ forecast. Furthermore, the Paraguayan Axel Bachmann is also participating, Ibero-American champion at the moment, who seems to be one of the favorites; the Peruvian Julio Granda, who took the title in 2008; and the Cuban Lázaro Bruzón, winner in 2006 and one of the top-ranked American Masters in the world rankings.
Alan Pichot, from Argentina, also raises a huge expectation among the crowd; he is the new young genius of World Chess, sub 16 world champion.
