Gledura Benjamin on top again at First Saturday Budapest GM Tournament

It has been the second time this year IM Gledura Benjamin (HUN) won the First Saturday GM tournament. His victory in March resulted in his first GM norm but one point was missing this time. He arrived to this tournament in top form coming back unbeaten from the World Youth (U16) Chess Olympiad (Aug 2015 MGL) as the best scorer on the first board (8 points of 10 games).

Braeuer Franz (GER) also showed outstanding play but losing in the last round deprived him of both the GM norm and the first place. It was his fourth IM norm though.

It has been the second First Saturday victory this year for Bunyatov Rustam (AZE) too. He won the FM section in March. These two events resulted in over 100 FIDE-Rating points won in Budapest. However, the IM norm was still half a point away.

The African representative GM Belkhodja Slim (TUN) showed a solid style fitting his modest personality and his fair attitude to chess as a game. The only woman participant Erdos Boglarka (HUN) was an equal counterpart of all her titled or higher rated opponents. She was close to achieving WIM norm.

There were fierce fights for FIDE rating points in the FM sections too. Start of school-year may be the reason that young participants showed up just in limited number this month.

The FM-B section was an exciting series of clashes of two ladies against 7 experienced masters and one young talent. The highest rated player Karikas Marianna (HUN) proved that the FIDE-rating system is still a rather reliable method of measuring the level we are at in chess. She came first despite having one game less due to another important piece of personal program.

Posztos Marcell (HUN) the youngest participant joined the event one day later to level the number of players even. Finally he won the most number of points after shining up his excellent tactical skills in the finishing rounds.

Group
A traditional group photo of the 2015 Sep First Saturday Budapest participants

The FIDE-rated Rapid event has become an interesting part of the First Saturday events. It is held always one day prior to the main events. This time 5 FIDE-masters met 7 rated and one unrated players. It could be seen that all of them enjoyed playing with aiming purely at having interesting games.
