GM Christian Bauer and IM Almira Skripchenko are 2015 French champions

The 2015 French Individual Chess Championships for men and women were held from August 9th to August 20th, 2015, in Saint-Quentin, France.

Both events were played ina 12-player round-robin format.

Grandmasters Christian Bauer and Tigran Gharamian prevailed in the men’s competition and shared the first place at 7.5/11 points. An additional playoff match of two games was organized to decide the winner. The first game finished in a draw, but Bauer, playing Black in the second one, chose a sharp variation of French Defence to defeated Gharamian 1.5 – 0.5 and clinch the title.

GM Etienne Bacrot remained third with 7 points, while GM Matthieu Cornette finished fourth with 6.5 points.

IM Almira Skripchenko was convincing in the women’s tournament and lifted the trophy with 9/11 points, leaving the runner-up, WGM Nino Maisuradze, half a point behind.

IM Sophie Milliet collected 8 points to take the bronze, while WGM Anda Safranska and WIM Natacha Benmesbah tied for the fourth place at 6.5 points each.
