GM Sergei Tiviakov wins 24th Kavala Open 2015 |

The 24th Open International Tournament Kavala 2015 was held from August 4th – 11th, at the Foyer of Kavala Prefecture Amphitheatre, in Greece.
The event was organized by Kavala Chess Club and East Macedonia and Thrace Chess Union into three main tournaments:
- Open A – for players with Elo rating higher than 1800 (for women higher than 1750)
- Open B – for players Elo rated below 1900 (the players between 1800 and 1900 have the right of choosing to participate either in Open A, or in Open B)
- Open C – for players born after January 1, 2005 and without having FIDE rating
Dutch player GM Sergei Tiviakov won Open A with 7/9 points, leaving the nearest followers half a point behind.
The second place was shared in a six–way tie by GM Evgeny Postny of Israel, GM Alexandr Kharitonov of Russia, Greek players GM Hristos Banikas, GM Dimitrios Mastrovasilis and GM Athanasios Mastrovasilis and IM Diptayan Ghosh of India with 6.5 points each.
Postny prevailed on a superior tie-break score to take the silver, while Kharitonov remained third.
Polish Olympic player WGM Jolanta Zawadzka was best among women with 6 points.
