“Yin Zhou” Cup China vs. Russia takes place in Ningbo Print

The 2015 “Yin Zhou” Cup China – Russia is taking place from July 14 through July 21, in Ningbo, one of China’s oldest cities.

The event is a friendly match between the men and women teams of the strongest countries in chess, Russia and China. Each team is represented by five male and five female players.

Russia (men): GM Peter Svidler (2740), GM Nikita Vitiugov (2734), GM Maxim Matlakov (2691), GM Vladimir Fedoseev (2664) and GM Daniil Dubov (2661)
Russia (women): GM Valentina Gunina (2548), WGM Olga Girya (2486), WGM Aleksandra Goryachkina (2486), WGM Natalija Pogonina (2465) and IM Alina Kashlinskaya (2432)

China (men): GM Yangyi Yu (2736), GM Yi Wei (2724), GM Xiangzhi Bu (2695), GM Shanglei Lu (2595) and IM Chen Wang (2521)
China (women): WGM Zhongyi Tan (2488), IM Yang Shen (2465), WGM Qian Huang (2457), WGM Tingjie Lei (2450) and WGM Yixin Ding (2439)

The event is played according to the Scheveningen System in five rounds and it’s split into men and women section. The time control is 90’/40 + 30’ + 30”.

The friendly match was preceded by a Scheveningen Blitz tournament in 10 rounds. The team of China won with the result 54:46 (26:24 in the men section and 28:22 in the women tournament).

The winner will be the team with more points scored in the classical tournament. However, in case of equality the trophy will be awarded to China, because of the blitz victory.

The prize fund in total of 50,000 USD will be distributed as follows: 18,000 USD for the winner of the men section, 12,000 USD for the other team, 12,000 USD for the winner of the women section and 8,000 USD for the defeated team.

China is one point ahead of the Russian men’s team after two rounds:
China (m) 3 + 2.5 = 5.5
Russia (m) 2 + 2.5 = 4.5

… but Russia leads in the women section with 5.5 – 4.5 to catch up with the hosts:
China (w) 2 + 2.5 = 4.5
Russia (m) 3 + 2.5 = 5.5

The best players so far among men were Bu (1.5) for China and Svidler (1.5) and Matlakov (1.5) for Russia.

In the women section Goryachkina, Pogonina and Kashlinskaya scored 1.5 points out of two rounds for the Russian team, while Shen and Lei did the same for China.
