From May 15th to May 24th 150 players from 13 different countries take part in the X American Continental Absolute Championship 2015, organized by the Uruguayan Chess Federation in Montevideo, Uruguay's capital.
Four players will qualify for the FIDE World Cup. However, three of the participants are already in. They are: GM Julio Granda (Perú), GM Sandro Mareco (Argentina) and GM Jorge Cori (Perú), classified in zonals or in the previous Continental.
This massive tournament consists of 11 rounds and gathers players from Argentina, Aruba, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, Paraguay, Perú, Uruguay, United States and Venezuela.
In the opening act were IA Jorge Vega, president of the American Chess Confederation, Enrique Celi, president of the zone 2.5 and IM Bernardo Roselli, president of the Uruguayan Chess Federation. All of them highlighted the honour that it is for Uruguay to held this competition and also the Youth Continental Cup, that will take place on 2016.
Some of the top rated players of the tournament are GM Julio Granda (2650), GM Yuniesky Quesada (2645), GM Axel Bachmann (2636) and GM Aleksandr Lenderman (2636).
