"The Pawn and the Queen" Moscow chess school tournament Print

Under the patronage of the President of FIDE Kirsan Ilyumzhinov the final stage of "the Pawn and the Queen" Moscow chess school tournament ended on April 26th. The event was dedicated to the 70th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War and took place at the Central Museum of the Great Patriotic War on Poklonnaya hill. Thirty-seven teams that had passed the local competitions took part in the final stage of the tournament. The total amount of participants included 4,500 students from 805 Moscow schools.

“The Pawn and the Queen" Moscow chess school tournament was organized also by the Department of Education of Moscow, the Moscow Chess Federation, Foundation for Support of Heroes of the Soviet Union and the Russian Federation and the Moscow City Council of Veterans.

TogliattiAzot was one of the sponsors of the final stage of the tournament. World’s largest producer of ammonia, Russian industrial leader TogliattiAzot, earlier became one of the partners of the "Chess in Schools" program in Russia. The program, administered by FIDE, aims to help schools include chess in the schools curriculum.
