Azerbaijan Chess Federation (ACF) with general sponsor - “Synergy Group” company (Azerbaijan) organized chess super tournament "Shamkir Chess 2015", beginning from 16 to 26 April, 2015, in honour of Azerbaijani grandmaster Vugar Gashimov, the European champion and winner of various international tournaments, who recently passed away.

This tournament is one of the most prominent events that contributes to development of intellectual games and chess in Azerbaijan. The main purpose of Shamkir Chess 2015 is to honour the memory of the famous chess player Vugar Hashimov, to support his family and friends, as well as the development of chess in Azerbaijan.
