first saturday logo

The traditional First Saturday tournaments as usual were organized at four levels. The GM section was a good opportunity for the three young candidates to take up experience competing against strong GM-s. The winner is GM Zoltan Varga (HUN) who had won one round robin and two open National Championships.

12 years old Kozak Adam (HUN) performed surprisingly well and despite his young age he proved to be equal opponent for all.

The most interesting section was the IM tournament this month. Four experienced IM-s were fighting against very talented and ambitious candidates. Two young girls delivered great surprise with their active thoughtful and colorful play.

Marjanovics Annamaria (13, HUN) former U10 silver medalist in the European Youth Ch. (Albena, 2011) shows continuous progress since she won the European Rapid Chess Ch. in her age group (U12) and was world top rated girl player in her age group in 2013 and in 2014. Now we can see that she is close to WGM level.

Marjanovics
WFM Marjanovics, Annamaria (HUN)

Havanecz Bianka (20, HUN) is one of the best scorers of Aquaprofit Nagykanizsa TSK Team Champion of the Hungarian National League. She is former National Champion of her age groups and decided just recently to invest some more energy into chess studies. Her efforts have brought immediate success since it is her second WIM norm within a year.

The higher rating section went on with 6 players double round system. Marta Dominik (15, HUN) won record number (+ 168) of FIDE-Rating points. K=40 for players U18 until they reach 2300 seems to multiply ambitions of youngsters.

The lowest rating section as usual was a clash of generations. The senior players dominated this time but some very young players benefited of the event by increasing their ratings significantly. Ongut Tamas Gunes (11, HUN) won near 50 while Geher Koppany (11, HUN) near 100 points.
