Champion GM Abdulla Al-Rakib receiving his prize


GM Abdullah Al-Rakib of Bangladesh Navy became champion in the CJKS-Prime Distributions Group Grandmasters Chess Tournament was held at M. A. Aziz Stadium in Chittagong. Rakib earned 6 points out of 9 games to clinch the title.
GM Vahidov Tair of Uzbekistan became runner-up. Rakib and Tair earned same points, according to tournament rules the championship decided by tie-breaking system. Rakib became champion with greater number of victories then Tair. Tair became runner-up less number of victories then Rakib.
GM Niaz Murshed of Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited became 3rd and IM Minhazuddin Ahmed of Bangladesh Navy became 4th. Niaz and Minhaz both earned 5½ points each. Their ties were breaking in tie-breaking system. IM Somak Palit of India became 5th with 5 points. Three players are earned 4 points each. Their positions are: 6th IM Akshat Khamparia of India, 7th-FM Sk. Nasir Ahmed of Bangladesh Navy and 8th-IM Abu Sufian Shakil of Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club.
WGM Toma Katarzyna of Poland became 9th with 3 points and FM Kh. Aminul Islam of Bangladesh Navy became 10th with 2 points.
The Prize distribution ceremony were held yesterday (Friday) at CJKS Auditorium of M. A. Aziz Stadium. Honorable Divisional Commissioner of Chittagong Mr. Mohammed Abdullah distributed prizes among the winners to present as chief guest. Mr. Mesbah Uddin Ahmed Deputy Commissioner of Chittagong and President of CJKS preside the ceremony. Mr. A. J. M. Nasir Uddin General Secretary of CJKS and Senior Vice-President of Bangladesh Cricket Board, Mr. Rashedul Alam Mamun sponsor of the event and Managing Director of Prime Distribution Group were present special guests. Mr. Eliyas Hossain Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) and Vice-President of CJKS, Mr. Mozammel Haque Vice-President of CJKS, Syed Shahab Uddin Vice-President of Bangladesh Chess Federation, Mr. Md. Mokaddes Hossain Vice-President of Bangladesh Chess Federation, Ln. Mazibar Rahman Howladar Executive Member of Bangladesh Chess Federation. Mr. Md. Aminul Islam, Joint-Secretary of CJKS and Chairman of Chess Committee of CJKS, Mr. Shahajada Alam Joint-Secretary of CJKS, Mr. Jahedul Islam Secretary of Chess Committee of CJKS and Executive Members and Councilors of CJKS were present in the ceremony. Earlier 9th or last round games were held yesterday (Friday) morning. In the last round GM Rakib beat FM Nasir, GM Tair beat IM Shakil, GM Niaz beat IM Somak, IM Minhaz beat FM Amin and WGM Toma beat IM Akshat. Total two thousand five hundred us dollars prize money given to the winners. The event was held in round-robin-League system and 10 players including 3 Grandmasters, 4 International Masters, 1 Woman Grandmaster and 2 FIDE Masters participate in the event.
