The 9-round rapid chess tournament “Chess returns to Crna Trava” was held on 11th October in Crna Trava, Serbia.
The event was organized by SO Crna Trava, chess clubs Komren Niš and Radnički Ćuprija, and sponsored by Chessdom.com.
Crna Trava suffers from heavy depopulation, chiefly for economic reasons, and is one of the poorest municipalities in the country. The chess tournament was held to encourage organization of sports and cultural happenings in the village.
The first positive step is the promise of the local administration that the chess club will be revived and ready to compete in the next season. 10 chess sets and clocks are being purchased for the club.
44 players from 10 cities participated in the tournament. Grandmasters Miroslav Tosic and Miroslav Miljkovic shared the first place with 7,5/9 points each. Tosic took the winner’s trophy and top prize on better tie-break score.
Chief Arbiter was IA Dragan Zivic.
