Australian and Portuguese success at First Saturday Budapest September events

The special colour of this month was the participation of a five member junior Portuguese delegation. The players either learnt a lot or won unexpectedly high number of FIDE rating points so their federation and club leaders can be happy of their decision to send them to Hungary for experience.

The Champion of Australia IM Illingworth Max (21) won the GM section performing his second GM- norm. He proved that his first GM norm did not come accidentally but as a result of his devoted life to chess. He lives in Sydney and started to make living on teaching chess.

Two Hungarian GM candidates IM Kantor Gergely and IM Korpa Bence seem to need some more experience after they were just awarded IM titles by the Tromso FIDE Congress.

An even younger boy from Israel Erenberg Ariel (11, ISR) accompanied by his enthusiastic father came as second finishing his tournament suffering from a cold. He also won over 80 rating points, thanks to the new FIDE rule of K coefficient set at 40 for players under 18 until they reach 2300.

The FM –B section was odd to other groups since experienced adults could dominate.
However, two young players showed promising achievements. The only woman (girl) participant Jorge Rita Maria Osorio (14, POR) was not only the virtual beauty queen of the tournament with her wonderful crown of golden hair but she gave lessons of chess to some of her experienced adult male opponents.

Öngüt Tamas Günes (10, HUN) surprisingly won almost 100 FIDE rating points. He started systematic working with a professional coach IM Farago Sandor (HUN) just about half a year ago.
