Zurich Chess Challenge 2015 Print

The next Zurich Chess Challenge is set to take place from 13th to 19th February, 2015, in Hotel Savoy Baur en Ville, in the largest city in Switzerland, Russian Chess Federation announced.

The winner of Zurich Chess Challenge 2013 and winner of Zurich Rapid 2014 Fabiano Caruana will be back for another shot at the title.

World Champion Magnus Carlsen will not participate, but his challenger Viswanathan Anand is on the players list.

Former World Champion Vladimir Kramnik, Levon Aronian, Sergey Karjakin and Hikaru Nakamura complete the field.


Zurich


Just like in previous edition, the event will start with a blitz opener.

The first five rounds will be played with the classical time control. The win will be awarded with 2 points and draw with 1 point.

Then on the last day another round robin, only with shorter time control, will be completed. In this format the win will be awarded with 1 point and draw with a half-point.

The winner will be announced after summing up the scores from both formats.

The tournament sponsor is Russian businessman Oleg Skvortsov, with the support of the world’s oldest chess club Zurich.
