Manuel Aaron Commemorative Blitz Chess Tournament at Lahore

The tournament was organized by Pakistan Chess Federation and UOL Chess Society
On the third day of 1st National Youth Chess Championship, Pakistan Chess Federation organized Manuel Aaron Commemorative Blitz Chess Tournament to pay homage to nine times Indian National Champion between 1959 and 1981. Mr. Aaron was India's 1st IM and is still active at the age of 80, but in Chess research and development. The tournament was the 2nd in the series of tournaments to acknowledge the past and present masters of subcontinent, the first being the Sultan Khan Memorial Rapid Chess Tournament in February 2014.
40 Chess players from six cities of the country including three women Chess players were invited to participate in 9-round Swiss league event with a time control of 5 minutes plus 3 seconds per move. National Master Abdul Qayyum Rana won the event with 7.5 points. Other position holders were Ahmad Naeem- 2nd with 7 points, Fauzan Ullah- 3rd with 7 points, Obrien Micheal- 4th with 7 points and Khalid Ashraf- 5th with 6.5 points. Total prize fund of the event was Rs.10,000.
There are plans to organize Sattar Pehalwan Memorial Chess Tournament in October to honor the ex-National Champion and country,s top rated player in 60's.
