The 7th edition of "Maria Albulet" Memorial women closed tournament for WGM norm will take place in the city of Braila, Romania, 3-12 September. First ranked participants are Irina Bulmaga (ROU) ELO 2354, Luminita Cosma (ROU) ELO 2327, Tereza Olsarova (CZE) ELO 2271. Main arbiter is IA Radu Chirila. Maria Albulet was a Romanian chess player, member of the national women team who finished second in Emmen Olympiad in 1957, 2 times national champion (1955 and 1956), and the mother of Marina Makropoulou (born Pogorevici), the first Romanian WGM.
Braila is a picturesque port on the lower Danube and due to its geographical location, Braila was in the past the most important European commercial hub for trading cereals.
