First Saturday Budapest June events combined with Kuwaiti-Hungarian friendly meeting

Due to summer holidays there were less number of players for the regular tournament, however, it became a chess festival with a Kuwaiti-Hungarian children’s meeting added side by side during the last four days.

The Hotel MEDOSZ Rapid open a day before the main event also contributed to the festival ambience with its unusually high level.

The GM group was a 6 player double Round Robin event with a balanced field so nobody could achieve any FIDE-Title norms. The most experienced member of the group GM Akesson Ralph (SWE) won second time in Budapest within a year. His secret may be that apart from the results he likes Budapest.

Experienced IM-s dominated the IM group too. The youngest of them, IM Torma Robert (HUN) has proved not the first time that by now he is ready to start for the GM title.

There was a four day Scheveningen clash for seven Kuwaiti unrated children against rated Hungarian little boys about the same age in average. It has served as a training school for the Kuwaiti guests for continental events. They took lessons in the morning from professional coaches and had their rapid and blitz clashes in the afternoons. The event proved that the Hungarian youth are some steps ahead but Al Amiri Bader (KUW) and Al Mutairi Mohammed (KUW) were able to win games and only half a point was missing for them to get rated.

The three Alsabej sisters (KUW) could also see that a long term systematic work is necessary for achieving success but somehow they reminded us of the World famous Polgar sisters.

The Hotel MEDOSZ Budapest rapid tournament started with 20 players with 8 titled including GM-s and IM-s too. GM Berczes David (HUN) won it with 7.5/9 presenting why he is so successful in time trouble situations.

All the events could be followed on Chess-Results refreshed daily.

The Hotel MEDOSZ Budapest hosted the events with attentive hospitality. The large air-conditioned Conference Hall and the stylishly renewed restaurant room were ideal home for the six tournaments making all players contented.

The next First Saturday events are scheduled at 5-15th July with the Hotel MEDOSZ Budapest Rapid open a day before.
