36 Chess Players participated in University of Lahore Chess Tournament
Encouraged by the participation of 24 Universities Chess teams in 2014 All Pakistan Inter Universities Chess Championship at Faisalabad, Pakistan Chess Federation has started an ambitious development program to reach out to 48 Universities throughout the country in next year. According to the program Chess tournaments will be organized inside the University campus and the students will be encouraged to form Chess Clubs or Chess Societies. The first of Chess Tournaments started on 22nd May at University of Lahore,s New Campus. The University has about 18000 students in all its departments and faculties but surprisingly this was the first ever Chess tournament organized on the campus. Showing a good response, 36 players entered into the 7 round swiss league event. Even though there are no big stars among them, all the participants showed their inclination to adopt Chess on regular basis and improve their game and ratings.
At the end of the tournament on 23rd May , trophies and shields will be distributed by Pakistan Chess Federation and top four players will be invited to play as a team in 2015 Inter Universities Championship.
