May Tournaments

Fourty players of three continents competed in four groups at the Hotel MEDOSZ Budapest this month. GM Blomqvist Erik (SWE) won the GM section by cool play.

1
IGM BLOMQVIST, Erik (SWE)

The field was so balanced that no-one could achieve the GM level. Liu Guanchu (20, CHN) achieved his second IM norm shortly after getting a GM norm at Kecskemet (HUN).

2
LIU, Gianchu /CHN/

The participation of an 8 member Turkmen delegation lead by GM Annageldyev Orazly President of the Turkmenistan Chess Federation made this event extremely interesting and exciting. They collected 5 medals and useful experience for future towards greater achievements.

The IM section has bought up the greatest surprise. 16 years old Farkas Richard (HUN) convincingly won leaving no room for errors. He works without coaching and sponsors but is supported by the sacrificial efforts of her widowed mother. He has mounted up experience by playing in First Saturday Rating sections continuously for four years using it as a school.

3
FARKAS, Richard /HUN/

Nguyen Thi Mai Hung (20, VIE) performed her third WGM norm. She has stayed in Hungary for years just for studying and playing chess.

The highest rating group gave floor for a new star to be emerged. Furedi Erik (11, HUN) won the event by extremely high percentage of scores showing brilliant tactical skills and original own ideas at the board. He named WIM Horvath Julia (HUN) as his main coach but also mentioned the support of IM Miklos Kaposztas (HUN) who has been managing to maintain a chess workshop and a first division team namely VASAS Sports Club Budapest in the highest Hungarian league for about half a century by now. “My main goal is first of all to become a Grandmaster” the young talent stated firmly. He is an expert of world history and for his age, surprisingly well orientated in every field of human culture.

5
FÜREDI, Erik (HUN) and IA (IM) ORSÓ, Miklós

The other two medallist of Turkmenistan proved to be well trained showing up up-to date knowledge in modern openings. Velieva Hurma (18, TKM) the only women participant of this group was a really colourful spot of the tournament and not only by her exotic beauty and smart dresses but by her skilful play as well.

6
