Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited, the renowned soccer club in Dhaka, Bangladesh and also Premier Division Chess League champion last three years which is the highest chess event in Bangladesh. Dhaka Mohammedan established in 1936 and it is oldest sports in Dhaka. Usually their more activates in soccer and cricket then other sports. Now they are interested of chess and decided to organise chess events in Dhaka. The Mohammedan International School Chess Tournament was held from 29th April to 3rd May in Dhaka. Mr. Lokman Hossain Bhuiyan, Director in Charge of Dhaka Mohammedan inaugurated the event on 29th April at Club Auditorium. Mr. Zakaria Pintu, Mrs. Kamrunnahar Dana and Mr. Sarwar Hossain, Directors of Mohammedan Club, Mr. Faruque Hassan, Managing Director of Giant Group and Part sponsor of the event, Mr. Rakib Uddin Dewan Ratan, Chairman of Tournament Committee, Mr. Iftekhar Mahmed, Secretary of Tournament Committee, Mr. Rezaul Haque Mukul and Mr. Masud Zaman, Members of Tournament Committee, Mr. K M Shahidullah, Vice-President of Bangladesh Chess Federation, Mr. Gazi Shayiful Tarique, General Secretary of Bangladesh Chess Federation, Grandmaster Ziaur Rahman, Grandmaster Abdullah Al Rakib and Grandmaster Enamul Hossain were present and gave addresses in the inaugural ceremony. Grandmasters gave thanks to the organisers, sponsors and they also inspired and motivated to all participants. Total 111 school students from Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka and USA participated in the event. There are 6 groups. 1. Open group for all, 2. Boys Class 5 to 7, Boys Class 3 to 5, Girls Class 6 to 10, Girls Class 3 to 5 and boys and girls KG to 2. Five groups were held in 6 round Swiss-League and Girls Class 6 to 10 was held 5 round Swiss-League system.

FM Mohammad Fahad Rahman of Gulshan Model School became unbeaten champion in the Open group. Fahad earned 5½ points to clinch the title. Three players earned 4½ points each in the open group. In tie-breaking system Rafshan Bin Omar of Government Science College School became Runner-up, Arka Sengupta of Koltaka International School became 3rd and Anata Choudhury of Nalanda School became 4th. WFM Arpita Mukharjee of Shahid Rameswar Girls School in Kolkata became unbeaten champion in Girls Class 6 to 10 groups. Asmita Das Dolna Day School in Kolkata became runner-up with 4 points and Nushrat Jahan Nafisa of Bibi Marium became 3rd with 3 points. Sayantan Mukharjee of Kolkata Boys School in became unbeaten champion in the Boys Class 5 to 7 Group with maximum 6 points. Jamim Al-Hamid of Lily Children |Academy became runner-up and Nova Tasha of DPS STS School became 3rd with 5 points each. Jannatul Ferdous of Ideal Primary School became champion with 5½ points in the Girls Class 3 to 5 Group, Rumaysa Hasnat of DPS STS School became runner-up with 5 points and Maliath Chowdhury of DPS STS School became 3rd with 4 points. Abdullah Al Shahran Saikot of Khulshi Child Grammar School became unbeaten champion with 5½ points in the Boys Class 3 to 4 Group. Daniel Murad of DPS STS School became runner-up and Mahmud Sharif of Ideal School & College became 3rd with 4½ points each. Tahsin Tajwar Zia of Saint Jude’s International School became unbeaten champion and Swarnova Choudhury of Wills Little Flowers School became unbeaten runner-up. Tahsin and Swarnove earned 5½ points each. The prize-distribution ceremony was held after games in afternoon at Mohammedan Club Auditorium. Mr. Lokman Hossain Bhuiyan, Director in Charge distributed prizes among the winners. Shahidullah, Vice-President of Bangladesh Chess Federation, Mr. Gazi Shayiful Tarique General Secretary of of Bangladesh Chess Federation and Grandmaster Ziaur Rahman were present and gave addresses in the ceremony. Laptop, Note-Book, Tab, Digital Chess and Analog Clock’s , Chess board and pieces, crests given to winners.
