The 4th Pakistan National Women Chess Championship starts on 28th March at Lahore under the aegis of Pakistan Chess Federation.

Top 6 women Chess players from all the provinces of Pakistan are poised to take part in the championship to compete for the top four slots. Zenobia Wasif from Karachi , the current National Champion shall defend his title while Gul Rukh and Zartaj Saeed from Punjab, may pose a strong challenge as both are well trained and vying for the top slot. Traditionally 4 women players are selected to participate in World Chess Olympiads, which in 2014 are going to be organized in Norway by the World Chess Federation. The National Federation has high hopes from Pakistan Women Team this year as compared to dismal performances in past year as the standard of Pakistan women Chess players has improved a lot in recent years.

The Women Championship is also significant because this is the first ever independently arranged National Chess Championship for women players, as in the past the women event had only been an accessory of Men Chess Championships.

Dr. Naeem Hamid Mirza, the General Secretary of Pakistan Chess Federation will be the chief guest in the opening ceremony at 10.00 AM to mark this historical event.
