European Chess Championship 2014 - Round One Print

The first round of the European Individual Chess Championship 2014 started on March 3, at 15:00 local time at Elite Plaza Business Center.

A total of 258 players from 27 countries, including 128 Grandmasters and 48 International Masters, are participating in the Championship.

According to the Regulations top 23 players qualify for the next FIDE World Chess Cup.

In round 1 former European Champions Dmitry Jakovenko and Alexander Moiseenko were held to draws by the lower rated opponents, Lilit Mkrtchian and Asaf Givon, respectively.

Meri Arabidze stunned the Croatian Champion Ivan Saric, while Ashot Nadanian defeated Boris Grachev.
