The First Saturday February GM tournament was especially unique because the six foreign participants represented different federation each coming from three continents. Finally each continent took a place on the podium tying 1-3 places. The GM norm was 7 points but the field was so balanced that nobody could reach it. However, Drozdowski Casper (POL) was closest to it, but failed to bring his best in the last two rounds.

The only player who had been left unbeaten Korpa Bence (HUN) performed his second IM-norm.

Bence

He proved that his GM norm achieved in December did not happen by chance or simply by being lucky. His consistent work with his coach GM Hera Imre (HUN) yielded its fruit.

The seven points IM norm was also too hard for the candidates in the IM group too. Oddly, three players were tied at first place in this group as well. The winner To Nhat Minh (HUN) glinted his brilliant tactical skills in almost all his games.

Westerberg Jonathan (SWE) was close to repeating his success in last October when he achieved IM norm. The best Hungarian, Bagi Mate has already also got IM norms and has shown up significant progress since he is coached by IM Szeberenyi Adam (HUN).

Winner of the higher rated FM-group 16 years old Farkas Richard (HUN) has proved again that his claim for the IM group is actual.

Skytte Torill (NOR) came to Budapest with her little baby and she seemed to concentrate with doubled energy. She was the only one who remained unbeaten against more experienced male and female opponents.

The highest rated Master-Candidate Steer Jozsef (HUN) won the lower rating section with accurate play. He came back to compete last year after 25 years break.

Steer Jozsef /HUN/

The young generation has shown spectacular progress. The youngest participant, Karacsonyi Gellert (10, HUN) presented resourceful tactical skills that lifted him to silver medal. Coached by FM Korpics Zsolt he has achieved a series of tournament success recently.

Kidd Balint (10, HUN) is a promising rising star. He could have doubled his number of points with a little more attention. Even so, he won the most rating points in the group.
