The 2014 Armenian Chess Championships were held on 11-21st January in Yerevan. Both men’s and women’s events were 10-player round robins.

Grandmaster Tigran Kotanjian emerged surprising winner of the 74th Armenian Championship for men after edging the 2011-Champion Robert Hovhannisyan on tie-break.

Kotanjian, the lowest rated player at the start of the competition, performed brilliantly to conclude the race with 6,5/9 points, adding the title and 31-elo points to his name.

In the 69th Armenian Championship for women three players shared the first place with 7,0/9 points each – Shushanna Sargsyan, Maria Gevorgyan and Siranush Ghukasyan.

Shushanna Sargsyan is declared new Champion thanks to the superior tie-break.
