Despite the hot summer weather there was a boom in number of participants. No GM norm was achieved but the young (18) Iranian player IM Idani Pouya (IRI) has already been close to it.

It was a leveled competition since the difference between the winner GM Stefansson Hannes (ISL) and the last place was only 2.5 points.

FM Tesik Csaba (HUN, 18) has achieved his second IM norm. His rocket speed of development is a result of coaching of Hungarian Olympic Champion GM Gyula Sax (Buenos Aires 1987)

The IM section has brought a breakthrough of a young Indonesian talent. Sean Winshand Cuhendi (INA, 15) who decided to study chess in Hungary for half a year has achieved his first IM norm after being close to it three times shortly before. The Indonesian government, Sports Ministry and Chess Federation have been supporting chess as a priority recently and the young Indonesian players prove that they really deserve it. The staff of the Indonesian embassy to Hungary also contributes a lot to the permanent success of the most talented young Indonesian players.

From left: IM Husari (SYR) the coach, Sean Winshand Cuhendi the player, the stepfather Mr Choky and IO Nagy Laszlo, the organizer.

He lost only one game, but against the most experienced Hungarian IM, the winner of the section IM Pal Petran (HUN) who is also a master trainer and really plays chess at top GM level. Winshand was coached this month fully by IM (FT) Husari Satea (SYR) who lives at present in Hungary.
