Turkmen success at First Saturday Budapest May events

An eight member Turkmen and a four member Tunisian delegation made this event particularly colourful and friendly in the spirit of FIDE motto “Gens Una Sumus”. Both delegations were supported by their National Chess Federations. The Turkmen came to Budapest the second time after they had had another successful visit the year before to First Saturday too. They did not come in vain since IM Atabayev Yusup achieved his first grandmaster norm sharing first place with GM Berczes David (HUN). Both of them showed up balanced form and came unbeaten well deserving their success.

The IM-A group brought no IM norms but both FM Kantor Gergely (HUN) and Bouzidi Ahmed (TUN) would have deserved it by their strong will and unbroken fighting spirit.
The African player presented a romantic way of chess in the style of the legendary Murphy.

The Tunisian delegation was lead and coached by FIDE-Trainer FM Doghry Nabil (TUN) who once had been the best scorer of their national team performing IM norm at the Chess Olympiad in Istanbul 2000. He infused very strong tactical skills into his pupils as it could be seen by their thrilling games. Doubtfully, it was a special delicacy of the tournament to see the Africans play. Bouzidi missed the IM norm with half a point only because he failed to win in the last round against twelve years old Aryan Chopra (12, IND) who came last but was already equal opponent for everyone. Coach of the young Indian talent was GM Szabo Krisztian (HUN). They may hope for a bright future if they keep working together.

The double Round-Robin IM-B section brought the rivalry of Li Bo (CHN) and the 14 years old Atabayev Saparmyrat (TKM) for the first place. Although Li came first defeating his rival in the last round only the young Turkmen hit the IM norm with TPR 2456 after nine rounds.

The Turkmen delegation was coached by GM Annageldyev, Orazly (TKM) who was radiating an optimistic and cheerful spirit to his pupils all the time. It is a kind of key of their success.

The higher averaged FM section was also the rivalry of two talented youth players. Both Farkas Richard (HUN) and Haitbaev Hayrulla (TKM) could play now in the IM sections by their mature play.
