Iasi and Romania had the honor of organizing a world chess championship again. 207 players from 37 countries competed for 10 days for the amateur world title and prizes totaling 10 000 eur. Participating countries include: Australia, Malaysia, Singapore, India, USA, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Peru, Colombia, Egypt, France, Iceland, Germany, Russia and Romania.

After a great opening ceremony followed nine rounds, with repeated changes of standings and a great final.
