Experienced GM-s left no much chance for candidates for performing GM norms this month but former U10 World Champion, now 13 years old Bai Jinshi (CHN) was only one point away of it. However, the young Chinese World Champion achieved triple success in Budapest.
He collected as many as 45 FIDE rating points which is very rare at GM tournaments. Besides achieving his first IM norm he also won the Medosz Hotel Rapid Open FIDE-rated event one day prior to the First Saturday GM event.

The IM section was full of titled players. The winner IM Kjartansson Gudmundur (ISL) played in sharp style surprising all his opponents with unexpected openings and moves.
He should have started in the GM section but missed the deadline of registration.

FM Hujbert Florian (HUN) who performed GM norm in the previous month in the GM section was the only one left unbeaten. He was half a point away from another IM norm. Fortunately he has achieved it in the Hungarian National Team Championships twice so his IM title comes soon.

The brightest spot of the whole tournament was the participation of the only one female participant of the tournament the 14 years old Gal Hanna Krisztina (HUN) who beat his experienced male opponents one after the other. She has developed a great deal tactically. Her coach IM Mester Gyula (HUN) can be really proud of her achievements.

There was another FM section too giving floor for lower rated players as well. The Hotel MEDOSZ Budapest housing the event for all year long provided again excellent playing conditions not only with the large Conference Hall and Restaurant Hall as playing area but also with extra services for the players.
The next First Saturday events are scheduled at 4th-14th May with a Hotel MEDOSZ FIDE Rated Rapid Open prior to it on 3rd May.
