Chinese GM shocked in Round 1
Grandmaster Ni Hua suffered a shocking defeat in the opening round of Fujairah Masters Tournament 2012. Indian IM Debashis Das played Sicilian Defence against the Chinese GM to win the game in 40 moves. Among other notable results, Zeng Chongsheng of China made a draw against Aleksander Moiseenko of Ukraine and V Saravanan made a fighting draw against Mchedlishvili Mikheil.
The tournament attracted 116 players from 29 countries. There are two sections – Masters Tournament for players rated 2200 and above and Open Tournament for players rated below 2200. The total prize money is $ 55000 USD with a first prize of $ 15000 in Masters Tournament. The tournament was announced as officially open after His Highness Shaikh Sultan Bin Saleh Al Sharqi made a move against the top seed Baadur Jobava of Georgia.
