The All India Chess Federation appointed Delhi Chess Association to organize India’s 1st National Schools Championships in Delhi from 27 to 29 October. Almost 600 players participated in the U5, U7, U9, U11, U15 & U17 categories for boys and girls. FIDE General Secretary Ignatius Leong inaugurated at the opening ceremony. The following day, one of India’s top film stars, Miss Raveena Tandon, graced the start of the 5th round. Most of the top prizes were won by students from Chennai where Chess in Schools is an official prgramme.
