The all year round First Saturday events started with five groups for the October series in the pleasantly renewed bright and spacious Conference Hall of the MEDOSZ Hotel in the centre of Budapest.
A seven member Kuwait delegation for the Master’s section made the event especially interesting. The GM group was played in double RR system for 6 players. The highest rated GM Berczes David (HUN) proved his rating real, winning the tournament in convincing style. The other two GM-s showed also good forms so there was no room left for the three candidates to achieve any title norms this month.
IGM Berczes, David /HUN/
FM Codenotti, (15 years, ITA) missed IM-norm by half a point.

FM Kojima, Shinya /JPN/
IM Nguyen, Huynh Minh Huy (VIE), winner or the IM-group

The highest rating group brought the expected victory of the only one IM but the real winners were the young players. The only female participant Gal Hanna Krisztina (14 years of age, HUN) who is going to represent Hungary (U16) in the forthcoming Youth World Ch. (Maribor, Slovenia) collected over 20 FIDE rating points
Gál, Hanna Krisztina /HUN/
Wanger Tamas ( also 14 HUN) won over 35 points.
The Kuwait players gained a lot of experience and they have promised to return to the tournament again after taking serious preparation.

The lower FIDE Rating group resulted in a tie at first place. Gruz Janos (HUN) who is a master as carpenter and upholsterer in civilian life has proved that he is a real master of chess as well.
Gruz, Janos /HUN/
Al-Amiri Adel (KUW) may expect a FIDE rating as high as about 1800 after his first international challenge.
Al-Amiri Adel, leader of the Kuwaiti group
The real winner of the group was Goldie Thomas (12, SUI) winning over 30 FIDE rating points.
