World Women Rapid Championship - Round 9 Print

Women's World Rapid Championship 2012 is under way in Sheraton Hotel, Batumi, Georgia. The event is organized by the ACP and the Georgian Chess Federation and approved by FIDE.

Five former world champions – Nona Gaprindashvili, Maia Chiburdanidze, Zhu Chen, Antoaneta Stefanova, Alexandra Kosteniuk participate in the event.

The current European champion Valentina Gunina and strong Grandmasters Anna Muzychuk, Humpy Koneru, Zhao Xue, Nana Dzagnidze, Tatiana Kosintseva are also in the competition.

After 9 rounds former world champion Antoaneta Stefanova leads the race with 7,5 points. In the 7th round she made a draw against Humpy Koneru and managed to win against Nino Khurtsidze and Katerina Lahno in the last two games.

Alexandra Kosteniuk is placed second half a point behind. Humpy Koneru, Katerina Lahno and Anna Muzychuk share the third place with 6,5 points.

The last two rounds will take place on 3rd June. The champion will be decided after 11 rounds with time control 25 min + 10 seconds.
