China, India Lead Asian Nations Cup Print

China-1 and India maintained their lead after four rounds of the Asian Nations Cup in Zaozhuang, China.  In the women's division, China-1 has solo lead followed by India in second slot.

The two Chinese Men’s teams met in this round and China-1 beat China-2 by 3½-½ on wins by GMs Wang Hao, Wang Yue and Ding Liren. GM Zhao Jun saved China-2 from a shutout by holding GM Li Chao to a draw.

India kept pace, beating Iran by the same score of 3½-½. GMs Sasikiran, Negi and Gupta scored for India. IM Seyedjavad Alavimoghaddam saved Iran from a shutout by holding GM Hari Krishna to a draw.

Kazakhstan outclassed Singapore 3:1 to stay within striking distance of the leaders.


Vietnam beat Mongolia by the same 3:1 score.


Iraq won 3½-½ against Korea. Indonesia blanked Yemen 4:0. In the battle of cellar dwellers, Hong Kong edged Chinese Taipei 2½-1½.


In the women's division, China-1 narrowly beat Iran 2½-1½. GM Zhao Xue beat Atousa but WIM Sarasadat upset WGM Ju Wenjun to even the score. After board 4 was drawn, the last game of the round to finish lasted six hours of play. WGM Shen Yang beat WIM Ghader Pour Shayesteh to seal the win for China.


India edged Mongolia 2½-1½ on wins by IM Tania Sachdev and WGM Mary Ann Gomes. Saihanzaya Ganbaatar struck back for Mongolia, beating WGM Padmini Rout. A draw on top board sealed the win for India.


Indonesia blanked Singapore 4:0. Vietnam was held to a 2:2 draw by the young girls of China-3. China-2 shutout Kazakhstan 4:0.

In the Men's, China-1 and India remain tied for the lead with 7 Match points each. Kazakhstan is in third slot with 6 points. Vietnam, China-2 and Iran have 5 points each. Singapore, Indonesia and Iraq are tied at 4 points each. Mongolia follows with 3 points. Korea, Yemen and Hong Kong have 2 points each. Chinese Taipei is scoreless.


In the Women's, China-1 is alone with 8 Match points. India is in second slot with 6 points. Iran and China-3 follow with 5 points each. China-2 and Indonesia have 4 points each. Mongolia and Vietnam have 3 points each. Kazakhstan. Singapore women are scoreless.
