Icelandic Chess Championship in Kópavogur Print

The Icelandic Chess Championship was organized by the Icelandic Chess Federation from 13th to 23rd April in Kópavogur, the second largest city in Reykjavik. The championship was the strongest that has been held this century, with four Grandmasters and an average rating of 2398.

Twelve players competed in the round robin tournament. Top seeded was the 11-times national champion Hannes Stefansson.

IM Bragi Thorfinnsson and GM Throstur Thorhallsson shared the first place with 7.5/11 points each. There will be a playoff between Thorfinnsson and Thorhallsson scheduled for May for the title.
