Each round will be played with a time control of 5 minutes plus 3 seconds non-cumulative (Bronstein) increment per move. No ties for any place shall be split; thus, prize money shall be shared. The default time shall be 5 minutes.
Entry Fee The entry fee shall be £15, and £10 for juniors. Holders of the GM, IM, FM, WGM, WIM and WFM titles shall be entitled to free entry. There will be a £5 surcharge for all entries on the day of the event.
Prizes The following prizes will be awarded: 1st place – £250, 2nd place – £150, 3rd place – £75. There will be two grading prizes of £40 each for players graded under 160 and 120. There will be a £50 prize for the highest-scoring junior player i.e. a player who was under 18 years old on 1st January 2012. These prizes may be increased in value, or additional grading prizes may be awarded, if there are sufficient entries. Prize money will be transferred by the ECF after the completion of the event. The title of British Blitz Champion will be awarded.
Grading Prize Eligibility Where players have both a standardplay ECF grade and a rapidplay ECF grade in January 2012, the lower of the two shall be used for the purposes of seeding in this tournament, and grading prize eligibility. Ungraded players with a FIDE rating will be assigned a grade using the conversion: ECF = (FIDE – 650)/8. All other ungraded players will not be eligible for any grading prizes. A player can only win one prize.
Rating This event will be FIDE-rated, and therefore games played will count towards the new FIDE Blitz Rating List, to be published on July 1, 2012. This will not affect your standardplay rating! There is no requirement to be an ECF Direct Member to play in this event.
