golden_globeThe 40th Annual World Open will be held from July 2-8 at the Sheraton Philadelphia City Center Hotel, 17th & Race Streets, Philadelphia, PA.

The projected prize fund is $250,000 with a guaranteed minimum of $200,800.

The event has 9 sections: Open, Under 2400, Under 2200, Under 2000, Under 1800, Under 1600, Under 1400, Under 1200 and Under 900.

The Open Section is a 9 round Swiss tournament with GM and IM norm opportunities. The Open Section will be played over either 7-day or 5-day schedules.

The Under 2400 to Under 1600 sections are 9 round Swiss tournaments having 7-day, 5-day, 4-day and 3-day schedules to play in.

The Under 1400 to Under 1200 sections are 9 round Swiss tournaments having 5-day, 4-day and 3-day schedules to play in.

The Under 900 section is a 9 round Swiss tournament that will be held over 3-days, July 6-8.

Last year winnner was US champion Gata Kamsky
